2 July 1936 - The Clarence Sun

Harold Latare, 15 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Latare of near Wyoming, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. August Christophersen of Clarence, died at the Anamosa hospital on Sunday morning as a result of injuries suffered Saturday evening in an auto collision on the south side of Wyoming.

He was riding to town in a coupe with Don Gerdes, 19 years old, on the Wyoming-Oxford Junction primary road number 136 when Kermit Usher, a Wyoming boy, drove onto the highway from a side road and struck the Gerdes car. Harold received facial cuts that required twenty-three stitches to close. He lost much blood before he could be cared for and taken to Anamosa. Internal injuries are believed to have been the direct cause of his death. The Gerdes lad received only bruises and the offending driver was not hurt. The Gerdes car was damaged the most.

A very largely attended funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Wyoming Lutheran church. The Clarence relatives accompanied from here by Julius and John Christophersen of Danbury, Iowa, the Joe Fisher family of Mt. Vernon and Mr. and Mrs. Hammer also of Danbury attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Latare have two other sons, Arnold and Donald, and a daughter, Miss Esther.

Harold was much loved by his family and in the Wyoming community on account of his upstanding character and interest in things worth while. He was a sophomore in the Wyoming school, a member of the Lutheran church and very active in the Luther league. His passing is greatly mourned as attested by the large gathering to do him honor. A great abundance of flowers was brought to the church by admiring friends and followed him to his grave in the Wyoming cemetery.
