Funeral services were held today for Alice L. Clay, 86, who died Monday at Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton. Services began at 10:30 a.m. at Hayden Funeral Home, Olin, with Rev. Gary Dobbins officiating.

Pallbearers were Steven Clay, Leonard Clay, Clifford Taylor, Alvin Shankland, Harold Lanning, and Arthur McGuire.

Alice L. Baird was born April 8, 1891, near Clarence, the daughter of Elliot and Anna Freeman Baird. She was raised in Clarence and Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Clay graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and attended school at East Northfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Cornell College, and taught school in Cedar and Linn Counties.

She married Augustus Clay in Lisbon July 17, 1917. The couple farmed in Center Point until they moved to Olin in 1950.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Olin.

Survivors include her husband, one son, Willard, Cedar Rapids, and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and a sister.
