page 10Anamosa, Ia. Oct. 26--E. M. Harvey passed away from this life on Monday morning about 1:30. Two weeks ago he submitted to an operation for the removal of an eye, and has never recovered from the effects. While at first he seemed better, he evinced no desire to get up, preferring to remain quietly in bed, which was unusual for a person of his active habits. Mr. Harvey has been a resident of Anamosa ever since March, 1858, coming here from New York state, where he was born in Onondago county, in 1835. He was married to Miss Lucy Clark in January of the same year and he came to Iowa. Mr. Harvey was a contractor and builder and has been engaged in the erection of many buildings in Anamosa. He was a devoted member of the I.O.O.F. having joined Anamosa Lodge No. 40 in 1860. He was also a member of McDaniels encampment, and is a member of the Grand Encampment of Iowa. The meeting of the Grand Lodge in Clinton last week is the first gathering of the kind that he has missed for many years. He was also a member of Evangeline lodge, Rebekahs. Mr. Harvey has held many offices of trust, not only in his lodge, but in his home town. He has been township trustee and justice of the peace for many years., He was a man of good judgment and of unswerving honesty and upright principles. He is survived by his wife, one son, C. H. Harvey of Knoxville, Tenn., and two daughters, Mrs. John Gerber and Miss Jane Harvey, both of Washington, D.C. The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon.
