page 2Anamosa, Ia. Sept. 15--The funeral services for Mrs. S. A. Sampica were held at the Catholic church Monday morning. The circumstances attending the death of this lady were usually sad. Mr. and Mrs. Sampica reside on a farm not far from town. It is supposed that after dinner she started to do some painting and set the can of paint on the stove, where it exploded or caught fire in such a manner as to set her clothing on fire. She must have rushed from the house, for some passers-by, seeing a smouldering heap in the yard, stopped to investigate and found the unfortunate woman with her clothes entirely gone and her body burned to a crisp. Her husband was working not far away and seeing people at the house, came to find out what had happened, and did not know of the tragic event until he reached the house. Life was not entirely extinct when she was found, but she passed away before the doctor and Father Powers reached the home.
