Olin, Iowa, Aug. 8--Robert Hal Burch was born to Fred F. and Cornelia Burch at Olin Sept. 19, 1890 and spent his entire life in this community. He had been working some time in Waterloo and on the evening of July 28, 1916 after working hours in company with others, went to the bathing beach in the Cedar River. In diving from a tree he in some manner lost his balance, striking on the hard sandy bottom and receiving the injury from which he died at St. Francis hospital Friday morning, July 2, at 2:40 o'clock, about 20 minutes before the arrival of his wife and father, who had made the trip overland. Thus bright young manhood is snuffed out and thus souls are ushered into eternity. A life, just grasping the great possibilities of a great existence, has been relieved of its joys, its burdens, its cares and its happiness, as is seen from the human standpoint. "Bob" as we all knew him, was a happy, good natured, kind hearted friend and companion. Having grown to manhood in this community he was well known to everyone. He was married to Miss Anna Haller, of Preston, Nov. 25, 1912 and thus by his sudden going, has left a heart broken young wife. His father and two brothers are all that are left of the immediate family. The funeral was held from the M.E. church Monday, July 31, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. S. V. Williams, assisted by the Rev. C. C. Mobson. The Woodmen services were under the direction of the local lodge and the body was laid away in the city cemetery. Some of the relatives and friends from out of town were: George Burch and wife, Collins, Iowa; Paul Burch and wife, Mason City, Iowa; T. M. Burch, John Breed and wife, Anamosa, Iowa; F. M. Burch and wife, Cedar Rapids; G. W. James family, Wyoming, Iowa; James Glenn and wife, Norway, Iowa; John Haller and wife, Mrs. H. C. Meyers, Mrs. W. C. Beyers, W. O. Hinrichs and Mrs. Amelia Stamp, Preston, Iowa, Jack Haller, Clinton, Iowa, and Mesdames Gerhard and Knock, Lost Nation, Iowa.
