3 June 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Anamosa, Ia. June 3--A very sad event took place in Anamosa Saturday forenoon. Fred Prentice, who was home from Cedar Rapids from business college, started to take a short ride around town. He took a little boy, Jack Rhody, about two years old, as a companion. Shortly after, some one saw the car with apparently no driver standing in a ditch and on investigating found young Prentice dead and the little one patting his face and head in a vain endeavor to arouse him. He must have been conscious that he was ill, for he had shut off the engine and turned its head into a bank. Fred was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Will Prentice and was about twenty-one years old. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Monday afternoon and friends seemed to vie with each other in sending flowers in unlimited quantities to testify to their sympathy to the bereaved parents. The pall bearers were his cousins and schoolmates, with an honorary escort from his Cedar Rapids classmates.
