Center Junction, Iowa, Feb 7--Mrs. Olive Preston, formerly Miss Olive Barto, the daughter of Horace and Humility (Evans) Barto, was born in Courtland county, New York, March 25, 1835. She was the youngest child of a family of twelve, all of whom have gone before her. At the age of 18 she was united in marriage to Joel Collier. To them three children were born, Horace, Henry and Mrs. Ida Andrews. Horace died at the age of eight years. Henry and Ida survive her and live at Center Junction. At the age of 21 she became a widow and came with her parents to Jones county. Eleven years later she was married to Levi Jerome Mann. To them were born two children, Jennie, who died at the age of 2 years, and Mrs. Ella Preston of Center Junction.
In 1884 she was married to Henry Clay Preston, who died in 1910. She lived on her farm where she resided fifty-seven years, except three months, when she resided in Center Junction. She died January 24, 1916, at the age of 80 years, 10 month and 1 day. She had 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She had been a Christian from childhood, uniting with the M.E. church early in life. Mother Preston, as all loved to call her, has been a sweet-spirited soul, loving to children, kind and helpful to all who knew her. If any one was in trouble or sickness she was sympathetic and helped them to bear their load. It can be said of her, "She did what she could."
During her last sickness and suffering she bore it all patiently and those who saw her beheld on her face the brightness of God's glory in her soul.
The Funeral services for the deceased were held at her country home Friday, Jan. 28, conducted by Rev. Davis, pastor of the Center Junction M.E. church. Interment was made in the Madison Center cemetery. The floral offerings were most beautiful. All of her children were present.
