INTERMENT IN WYOMING CEMETERY

Mary Calkins Chassell, wife of Edward D. Chassell, died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last Monday at the home of her sister, Mrs. W.E. Briggs after a long illness. She was the daughter of Dr. Martin H. Calkins and was born in Wyoming, Iowa, December 13, 1865. She was married to Edward D. Chassell, then of LeMars, Iowa, December 19, 1906.

She was active in social and patriotic clubs in Des Moines where she lived when her husband was a state official and in Chicago where they have located for several years. She was a graduate of Frances Shimer School, Mount Carroll, Ill.,and before her marriage was a teacher of music and painting; having been a member of the faculties of Cedar Valley seminary at Osage, IA., Drake university, Des Moines and Bethany college, Topeka, Kansas. She was a member of the Society of Colonial Dames, Iowa and Massachusetts, as a descendant of Isaac Allerton, lieutenant governor of the Plymouth colony under Governor Carver. She was also a member of Beacon Hill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Des Moines and Daughters of the American Colonists, Washington, D.C. She was once corresponding secretary of the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs and a member of numerous other clubs societies.

Funeral services were held from the Calkins home this afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.E. Wilcox of Hopkinton, a former Methodist pastor at this place and warm friend of the deceased. Many friends from various parts of Iowa were present. Interment in the Wyoming cemetery. The Journal will publish a life sketch of this noble woman and life-long friend of Wyoming and its institutions in its next issue.
