William F. Sperfslage, 99, of Prairieburg, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, in Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg. Burial: church cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Droessler will officiate. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello, where a Scripture service begins at 7 p.m.

Bill was born Jan. 8, 1906, in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of Louis and Bernadine (Scherbring) Sperfslage. On Dec. 27, 1933, he married Teresa Soethe in Burlington, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Petersburg area until 1942 when they moved to the Prairieburg area to farm. Bill lived there until his most recent illness. He was a man of simple wants and needs. He loved his family, his faith, farming, fishing, trapping and the White Sox.

Bill is survived by two sons, Louis (fiancee Bobbi Hughes) Sperfslage and Lloyd Sperfslage, both of Monticello; a daughter, Joan (Larry) Stoneking of Monticello; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Nov. 1, 1978; a son-in-law, Lester Weber; a daughter-in-law, Helen Sperfslage; a grandchild; five brothers and two sisters.
