Funeral services for A. Ray Embree, 86, a former resident of the Mechanicsville area, were held at Anamosa June 17 with burial in Cedar Memorial, Cedar Rapids.
He was born near Springville, March 11, 1886, the son of Benjamin and Anna Engle Embree. On Sept. 1, 1914, he was united in marriage to Bessie Jones and they made their home on a farm in Greenfield township until moving to Anamosa several years ago.
Mr. Embree was a charter member of the Jones County Farm Bureau, having been instrumental in its founding. He was also involved in the establishment of a home for the elderly in Jones County. Until this spring he had been an active member of the Anamosa Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Lee, Lancaster, Calif.; Verne, R. R. 2 Anamosa; Mrs. Oley (Lulu) Wasnaselia, Levitown, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Harlan, Pasadena, Calif.; John Williams, Whittier; and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Abeel, Oasadena, Calif. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille Martens, April 23, 1968; a brother and a sister.
