Olin - Funeral services were held in the Hayden Funeral home July 20 for Charles E. Burgess, 60, with Rev. Elmer Boom, Cedar Rapids, officiating.

Mrs. Leroy Wendt, Mechanicsville, sang and Mrs. Vella Freeman was organist.

Mr. Burgess was injured Friday, July 16, while working on the Dean Henderson farm. He fell 30 feet through an open hay chute and landed on the cement below.

He was taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital where he died the following night.

Charles Edwin Burgess, son of Milen E. and Nellie Loomis Burgess, was born in Cedar County, Jan. 26, 1905. He attended the Stanwood schools and spent most of his life farming in the Olin area.

He was married to Mary Eleanor Barker on Oct. 5, 1935.

Survivors include his wife, four children, Joe, at home, Mary Jean and Joyce, both of Cedar Rapids, and Roger, Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren, a brother, James, Lone Rock, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Herman Wendt, Mechanicsville.

His parents and a brother preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Andre, W. F. Robertson, Norman Ahrendsen, Bernard Boots, Howard Biere and Henry Peden.

Burial was in the Olin cemetery.
