Anamosa - Mrs. Elsie O. Murfield, 77, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 16, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19, at Olin E.U.B. church, at 2 p.m. Rev. Lloyd Dutro conducted the services; burial was in Olin cemetery. Music was provided by Mrs. Nellie Stivers and accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Galen Alexander.

Pallbearers included Dee Vrooman, Frank Michels, Flavel DeLancey, Gary Joslin, Dillon Story and Everett Anderburg.

She was born July 18, 1888, daughter of Wesley and Sarah Perry Shaffer, Prairieburg. On March 10, 1909, she was united in marriage to Perry Murfield, Maquoketa. The couple farmed near Martelle and Olin communities until 1944, when her husband died and she moved to Anamosa. She was a member of Gold Star Mothers, VFW and American Legion auxiliaries.

Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Orville (Wilma) McDonald, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Lawrence (Ellen) Kroemer, Stanwood; Mrs. Donald (Mildred) Staab, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Raymond (Marcella) Batchelder, Wyoming.

Mrs. Robert (Eunice) Fairbanks, Stanhope; Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Andre, Torrance, Calif.; Mrs. Wilbur (Patricia) Johnson, Mechanicsville; Mrs. Rauel (Janice) Swanson, Anamosa; one son, Galen, Stanwood; 27 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Leafa Yarns, Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, husband, three sisters and two brothers.
