Henry F. Biere, 73, Once of Clarence, Dies

Funeral services for Henry F. Biere, 73, were held at Olin Feb. 24 with the Revs. Lloyd Dutro and Roger Hoppenworth in charge. Pallbearers were Ervin Kintzel, Warren Goldsmith, Robert Rix, Melvin Koth, Richard Nebergall and Wilburt Stolte.

Mrs. Dorothy Alexander was organist and Donato Petrucelli vocalist. There was a Masonic graveside service. A prayer service was held prior to the last rites.

Henry Frederick Biere, the son of Henry and Dora Schmidt Biere, was born in Hale Township, Jones County, May 10, 1891. He died after a lengthy illness at his home in Olin, Feb. 22.

He grew to manhood in the Olin-Clarence community, attended the rural school of the area.

April 16, 1904 he was confirmed in the United Church of Christ at Clarence.

Feb. 25, 1914 he was married to Minnie Rix at the St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence. Mr. and Mrs. Biere farmed until the fall of 1956 when they moved to Olin.

Mr. Biere was a member of Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 200 A.F. & A.M. at Olin and had served as Master of the Lodge in 1937 and 1939. He was also a member of the DeMolay Consistory at Clinton.

He is survived by his widow, Minnie, 5 sons, Howard, Mechanicsville; Raymond, Anamosa; Norman, Clarence; Frederick, Muscatine; and Henry Jr., Anamosa; and a daughter, Doris, Mrs. William Henderson, Fargo, N.D.; and 3 sisters: Mrs. Freda Kintzel, Stanwood; Mrs. Minnie Koth and Mrs. Lena Hoffner, both of Clarence; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
