Moore Tells of Trip Warning
Pro-Germans in Tama
and Grundy

DUBUQUE, Aug. 20 – United State Marshall and Mr. E,. R. Moore returned from an automobile run of 415 miles through, Jones, Linn, Tama, Marshall and Grundy Counties.

They left Monday morning. At Monticello, Jones County, the marshal arrested Joseph Kiburz as a slacker. Kiburz was under indictment on registration day and was in the state of Oregon under the name of Harry Kelly, under which name he registered in that state. Since then his case was settled in Jones County and he returned. The marshal heard that he had registered under an assumed name and on investigation Monday found that was true, and so took him to Anamosa, where he was registered. Under a new ruling, his name will be put in a list of names drawn, in place of someone exempted, so that he is sure to go to war under the first call, unless he fails to pass the proper examination. Kiburz was taken to Cedar Rapids before United State Commissioner Harwood, where he was released under $1,000 bond for the appearance of the next term in Federal Court in Cedar Rapids, Oct. 2.

Left Warning

Marshal and Mr. Moore, Deputy Marshal M. L. Healy and William Gerhard, who could talk German when necessary, left Cedar Rapids that afternoon for a tour for the counties of Tama and Grundy. They visited towns of Norway, Blairstown, Luzerne, and Belle Plaine that afternoon and evening, winding up their work at Belle Plaine at 10:30 that night. They interviewed those talking of disloyalty or left word with the postmasters to see certain parties and tell them that they tried to find them, and inasmuch as they could not the postmasters were to convey the messages.
