Mary Shiffer Houser Tomlin

TOMLIN, LAWHEAD, NOSEK, SHIFFER

I am researching My Grandmother Mary Shiffer who married William Tomlin in 1914 in Iowa City.I know from her death cert she was born in New York City in Feb 1989 died Iowa city Oct 1939 but a search of vital stats in all five bouroughs didn't produce any results. She had 2 sons by a previous Houser mariage, William and Carl , then married Tomlin and had Josephine, Lloyd , Mildred, John and Perry,(twins) and Betty Jean. Her Death cert names her father as Michael shiffer. Does that sound like she could have come to Iowa on one of the Orphan trains? I have really hit a wall with her. Anyone have any ideas?
