Thanks for your help.

My block is that I can't find any trace of her before her marriage. And for this time period, it should be easy to find her in 1870, 1860, 1854 (IA), etc. She is the second wife of Erestin Kemp, Melissa Thurson was her first wife in NY, and died a few days after first child. Within a year Elizabeth Butler and Erestin were married (in NY). But she came out of nowhere. The only Butler I can't find in 1854 in Iowa city is James Butler that doesn't fit. All other butlers in the census don't fit. Rumor in the family was she was native american, but my DNA shows nothing from native american line.

Any suggestions?
