John WEST (b. 1797 NY) tried to layout the town of Solon in the 1840's. His son Orson West (b. NY 1827) purchased land north of town in the 1850's, married into the GRIFFITH family of Solon who patented land in Big Grove township in the 1850s. Orson sold his land to his father (John) and moved away with his father-in-law (James GRIFFITH). John WEST stayed on, his wife Clarissa (b. 1801 VT) died, and he remarried a woman named Hannah from North Carolina. John died in Newport, Johnson County in 1862; Hannah died there in 1875. Would love to hear from any WEST connected to this Johnson County, IA family. (Samuel MORRIS was an original warrantee of Big Grove Township, Johnson County and seems to have had a close connection with the WESTS and/or GRIFFITHS).
