Merrilee - I just thought of another possiblity -
My Grandfather, who would have been the Great-Grandson of Robert & Anna Ross, had written a little note on top of a letter he had sent to my Dad when he enclosed a copy of a Genealogy. On it he said "I sure was glad the Horsethiefs who were hanged are not mentioned in here."
I have been unable to find anyone who that might fit this criteria, in any other related branch of the family.
I wonder, I just wonder, if it could be Solomon, Samuel and or Horton? I DID find Daniel on the 1860 census, about 100 pages away from his parents, but in the same county. At least I THINK it is him. Anyway, will keep looking for the others, but I think I'll write to the Franklin Co. OH and the Johnson Co. IA local historians to see if there is any info on horse thieves being hanged between 1860 & 1870.
