To Johnson Cty list: I just spent two days in downtown Iowa City and visited a bookstore and a thrift shop where I found many genealogical treasures for Johnson Cty researchers. I am not researching in this area and did not write down surnames. However, some items I saw were:

1. A very old International Harvester ledger book, 1.5" thick, full of names of those who did business w/IH. No dates but ledger looks to be from early 1900s.

2. Baskets FULL of early 1900s personal postcards written to and from Johnson Cty residents--Christmas, Easter, etc. Each postcard is between $1 and $2 and kept in plastic. Excellent shape. Obviously given to Goodwill by area residents. A wonderful find for Johnson Cty researchers!

3. Family photos! Thrown away! Photos appear to have been taken in 1930s...no names tho.

It was hard to walk away without purchasing all these items to post names, etc., but finances wouldn't allow. Instead, if anyone is interested please visit Iowa City's Goodwill store and the old, used books book store in downtown Iowa City. Or email me privately and I'll get the name of the book store for you.
