THE OATHOUT FUNERAL HOME WAS STARTED IN 1927 BY ALVA OATHOUT. IT WAS LOCATED ON THE CORNER OF CLINTON AND COURT STREETS IN A LARGE WOODEN WHITE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CURRENT POSTOFFICE. THAT FACILITY WAS DESTROYED BY AN ARSONIST IN 1962. WHILE BUIDING THE PRESENT HOME AT 2720 MUSCATINE AVE THE TEMPORARY SITE WAS ON THE CORALVILLE STRIP. THE NEW FACILITY WAS COMPLETED IN 1963 AND WAS PURCHASED BY GEORGE L GAY IN 1964.
