Gene Lorenz, 88, of Iowa City, died peacefully Saturday February 11, 2006 at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids of complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday February 17, 2006 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Pastor Dwight DuBois of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate, with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 Thursday at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave. Memorial donations may be made in Gene's name to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Harriet Genevieve was born on September 2, 1917 in Des Moines, IA to Bert and Maude Sandy Shivers. Gene grew up in Des Moines and then moved to Iowa City in 1948. She was the owner-operator of Lorenz Cheese House. She married Arthur "Art" Lorenz on June 21, 1941 in Des Moines.

Gene was a graduate of Drake University, member of Kappa Alpha Theta and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Gene is survived by her four children, Mike Lorenz of Indianapolis, IN, Carol Snyder of St. Louis, MO, Bob Lorenz and wife Twyla, and Steve Lorenz all of Iowa City, two grandchildren Katie Grote and husband Dave of Eden Prairie, MN and Rob Lorenz of Coralville, two great-grandchildren Lucas and Emily.

Gene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Sally Hunn and Virginia Sproul.
