Dolores R. Hebl, 77, of Iowa City died peacefully Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Rev. Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Johnson County Humane Society.
Dolores was born on July 23, 1928 in Iowa City, the daughter of Edward and Magdalene Degler Hebl.
Dolores was employed at Younkers for over 39 years, where she managed the Linen Department. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church.
Dolores cherished the time spent with her family. She enjoyed antiques, Iowa City history and was proud of being raised in Iowa City’s Goosetown neighborhood. Throughout her life Dolores had a fondness for rescuing and caring for homeless and special needs cats.
Dolores is survived by two nephews, Steven (Mary) Delaney of Washington, Iowa and Gary Delaney of Tennessee; many cousins including Mary Hebl of Iowa City; and her feline companion, Peach.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings: Dorothy Delaney and Robert and Harold Hebl, and a great-nephew Michael Benjamin Delaney.
