Walter Jerry Jennings, 65, of 2238 California Ave. died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January13, 2006 at 2pm at St. Wenceslaus Church with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8pm Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Jerry was born September 28, 1940 in Iowa City, the son of Walter and Genevieve McCarty Jennings. He was a 1959 graduate of Regina High School. On April 8, 1972 he married Virginia L. Rose at St. Wenceslaus Church. Virginia died in 2004.

Jerry had been employed by Wonder Bread until his retirement in 2002. He had also worked at the Whiteway Market in downtown Iowa City where he met his wife Virginia.

Jerry was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church and the Loyal Order of Moose. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed outdoor barbeques and dining with friends. Jerry was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.

Jerry is survived by his six children: Debbie Brogan (Dave) Owens of Algona, Iowa and children Jamie and Melissa; Sue Brogan (Tom) Mellecker of Solon and children Heather and Chris; Barb Brogan (Keith) Messer of Solon and children Brogan and Brianne; twins, Brian Jennings of Iowa City and Bonnie (Vince) Owen of Lone Tree and children Brandon and Dylan; and Julie Jennings (John) Vice of Tiffin and children Tre and twin daughters Karlee and Kylee; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mason, Alexis and Caitlyn.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant sister.
