Sylvia Illene Holbrook, 71, of 136 Appanoose Ct. died Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10am at St. Wenceslaus Church with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm and the Women of the Moose will conduct a service at 7pm. A memorial fund has been established.

Illene was born on May 29, 1934 in Iowa City, the daughter of Leo and Mildred Bragg Moore. She attended St. Patrick’s High School and on November 29, 1952 she married Reaves Holbrook at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City.

Illene was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Women of the Moose.

The Holbrook Family lived at 430 Brown Street for many years. Illene had been active in many of children’s activities as they grew up as well as numerous civic projects. She cherished her family and left the door open to others without a home.

The family extends their thanks to Mercy Hospital, Mercy Home Health and Iowa City Hospice for all they did to make her final days peaceful.

Illene is survived by her children, Millie (Greg) Feldman of Lone Tree, Amy (Bob) Jensen and Missy (Erick) Clark, both of Iowa City, John Holbrook and Chuck (Belen) Holbrook of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Chris Holbrook of Baltimore, Maryland, Nick (Kim) Holbrook of Muscatine, Tammy (Jon) Obe of Dubuque, Cyndi Neal of Matoon, Illinois, Belinda (Jim) Benshoff of Tempe, Arizona, Juanita (Joe) Tanner of Tipton, Tom(Kathy) Holbrook of Milwaukee, Paul (Danielle) Holbrook of Iowa City, Marty (Jeri) Holbrook of Iowa City, Rachael(Brian) Hills and Aaron Breckner, both of Iowa City; 24 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her brother Pat (Sue) Moore of Iowa City; three sisters, Leila Heaton of Coralville, Alice Barkalow of Iowa City, Etta Brown of Taylor Ridge, Illinois.

Illene is preceded by her parents, husband and one son, James Leo “Bo.”
