Dr. Doral E. Colton, 69, of Iowa City died Friday, December 30, 2005 at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville of cancer.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 1pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, IA. 52240.

Doral was born June 22, 1936 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Charles R. and Cora E. (Kirsch) Colton. Doral was raised on a farm in southern Iowa. He was a graduate of Seymour High School and Drake University, where he received his pharmacy degree in 1959. Doral served in the US Army Reserves and worked in the retail pharmacy business for a few years. He returned to school in Iowa City where he received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1968. On July 27, 1969 he married Karen J. White at the First Congregational Church in Creston, Iowa.

Dr. Colton served his residency at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, specializing in pathology. He practiced medicine at The Lutheran Hospital in Moline (1973-81) and
at Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge (1981-96). Following retirement he and his wife moved to Iowa City.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to the Rocky Mountains, and doing genealogy research on his family. Doral was a Hawkeye fan and his two grandsons were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife Karen of Iowa City; two sons, Michael J. Colton of New Albany, Ohio and Brian C. (Lisa) Colton of Carmel, Indiana and their sons Benjamin and Thomas; his brother Russell D. (Lucile) Colton of Sandy Springs, Georgia; his brother-in-law Phil (Pat) White of Mesa, Arizona; two sister-in-laws, Connie White of Galveston, Texas and Kaira (Stephen) Daughton of Mesa, Arizona; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
