Grace A. Crowley 1916-2005

Grace A. Crowley, 89, formerly of 1129 West Benton and a resident of Walden Place died peacefully Wednesday, December 28, 2005 surrounded by her family at Mercy Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 9am at St. Patrick’s Church with the Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30pm Friday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm and a Vigil Service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Catholic Community Foundation.

Grace was born January 25, 1916 in Seneca, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Desire Ann DuCharme Beckwar. She was raised in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where she was a graduate of Prairie High School. On March 1, 1938 she married Peter P. Crowley. He died in 1984.

Grace had been employed at University of Iowa Hospitals where she cared for oncology patients and later was a nurse’s aid at Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

Grace was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the St. Patrick’s prayer line. The most important things to Grace were her family and her church. She loved making homemade apple pies for family, reading and feeding the birds in her yard. She and Pete loved to dance, a gift they passed on to all their children.

Grace is survived by her four children; Tom (Barb) Crowley of Iowa City and their children Heather and Colin, both of Iowa City; Gary (Margaret) Crowley of West Liberty and their children Maureen (Patrick) Hanrahan of Phoenix, Brian (Julie) Crowley of Columbus, Indiana, and Bret (Valerie) Crowley of Coralville; Marilyn Delsing of Iowa City and her children Scott Delsing and his fiancé Brenda of Iowa Falls, Troy ( Angie) Delsing of Coralville, and Christina (Greg) Randall of Boise, Idaho; Judy Crowley Lantz of Aurora, Colorado and her children Brad (Amy) Lantz of Durango, Colorado and Major Mark (Andrea) Lantz of Layton, Utah; two sisters, Mae (Carl) Romanek of Rockford, Illinois and Julia Holmes of Prairie du Chien; two sister-in-laws Florence and Janelle Beckwar, both of Prairie du Chien.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son-in-law Jon Delsing, five brothers and one sister.
