Libbie R. Barnes, 90, formerly of Iowa City, died Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch following complications of a stroke.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Friends may call Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish rosary will be held at 3:00 pm. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Libbie was born April 25, 1915 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Vincent and Victoria (Balsky) Stodola. She married William T. “Barney” Barnes in Kahoka, MO on July 8, 1940. The couple owned and operated Barney’s Grill & Barney’s DX, both in Iowa City. Libbie later worked in the laundry at Mercy Hospital, at Barbara’s Bake Shoppe and also at ACT in Iowa City. Above all, Libbie was a homemaker and to present days, dedicated her time to be with her family.

After her husband’s death in 1985, Libbie moved to Springville and later to Marion. Since 2004, she had been a resident at Crestview in West Branch.

Libbie was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Iowa City and St. Joseph’s Church in Marion. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards with her friends, traveling, and sewing. She was well known for her home made noodles & pies.

Libbie is survived by her daughters Jackie Donovan (Pat) of Iowa City and Vicki Barnes of Marion; ten grandchildren Brian (Joan) Donovan, Tim (Marcia) Donovan, Michelle (Darin) Lamont, Heidi (Greg) Winterowd, Michael (Kim) Nicholls, Natalie Nicholls, Matthew Nicholls, Travis Barnes, Shaunna Barnes and Matthew Barnes;16 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

Libbie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Scott, four brothers and two sisters.
