Helen E. Jensen, 89, of 1205 Village Road in Iowa City, died suddenly Friday, November 25, 2005 in her home.

A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Her family will greet friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Camp Courageous.

Helen was born July 5, 1916 in Iowa City, the daughter of Wiggo & Dorothy Jensen. She graduated from Pleasant Valley # 4 country school. Helen played on a women’s softball team, the Kelly Oilers.

Helen assisted in manufacturing eyeglasses for Rigg’s Optical for more than 15 years. She worked for Northwestern Bell in Iowa City for more than 30 years, working as a telephone operator, operator trainer and a service assistant.

Helen had a passion for collecting. She amassed and organized 1st day covers, coins, matchbook covers, stamps, beer cans and pens & pencils. She also enjoyed flower gardening and in past years, golf. She cherished her 1963 Pontiac LeMans – as did those who would see her driving it around town!

She was an active member and volunteer at the Iowa City Senior Center and was also a member of the Old Pioneers and the Iowa City Telephone Operators Luncheon Group.

Survivors include her brother Robert & his wife Betty of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lillian & Kathleen and a nephew, Tom Jensen.
