Harriet A. Stevens, 96, of 701 Oaknoll Drive, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Oaknoll Retirement.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30am Monday at St. Thomas More Church of which she was a member. Visitation will be at Church from 10:00am to 10:30am on Monday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The Visiting Nurse Association or favorite charity. Lensing Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.

Miss. Stevens was born October 25, 1909 in Iowa City, the daughter of Guy and Adeline Stevens. She attended local schools and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1932 and completed a dietetic internship at the University Hospitals and earned a Master’s Degree in 1934.

Harriet was employed as a hospital dietitian, in Chicago and the New York areas, and later taught nutrition in the Department of Home Economics at the University. During World War II, she was a dietitian with the Medical Corps of the United States Army and served in Europe.

She was a member of the President’s Club of the university, the Alumni Association, a life member of the American Dietetic Association and the American Home Economics Association and a held membership in a number of other professional organizations. She too was a member of the Phi Mae Society.

In 1974 she established a scholarship for students in Phi Beta Kappa in memory of her parents.

She is survived by her six cousins: Peg Allen, Mary Ann Harris, Marilyn Hedges, Dick Means, Steve Cozine, Betty Cozine and their families.
