PIONEER OF COUNTY DIES
Services for James Oldaker, 82, Held Sunday Morning At Frytown

Funeral services were held Sunday morning at Frytown for Jacob Groves Oldaker, 82-year-old pioneer, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Powell of Frendale, Friday after a week’s illness which culminated several years of failing health.

Mr. Oldaker was born in Licking County, Ohio, December 4, 1843 and while yet a small boy came with his parents to Johnson County, settling near what is now Frytown. He married Miss Margaret Hummer December 4, 1873 and thirteen years ago he moved to Wellman where he lived until the death of his wife two and a half years ago, after which he made his home with his daughters.

He leaves five daughters, Mrs. Vertie Kennard of Kalona; Mrs. Lulu Hartsock of Iowa City; Mrs. Ethel Powell, Mrs. Norina Crow, Mrs. Mabel Kaefring all of the Frendale neighborhood; a sister, Mrs. Eve Selby of Denver, Colo.; 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. KALONA – Mrs. Frank Kennard mourns the loss of her father Jacob Oldaker who passed away Friday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Powell. Funeral services for Mr. Oldaker were held at Frytown Sunday with burial in the Frytown cemetery. (Source: Iowa City Press-Citizen, Wed., Dec. 1, 1926, pg. 6)
