Krystyna (Krysty) Bujakowska, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away on November 21st, 2024, at the age of 13, surrounded by her loving parents, Katarzyna and Michal Bujakowski. After a courageous, multi-year battle with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, Krysty's remarkable strength, resilience, and spirit remained evident until the very end.

Born on March 2, 2011, in Wroclaw, Poland, Krysty moved to the United States in 2013 with her parents and older brothers, Stan and Artur, both of whom attended Iowa City West High School. Throughout her early years, Krysty attended Coralville Central Elementary, Wickham Elementary, and NorthWest Junior High. She was fluent in both English and Polish, embracing both cultures with love.

Krysty had a passion for both sports and the arts. As a talented chess player, she won numerous individual and team trophies. She was an active member of Ifly Swim Club and also swam for her junior high school team. Krysty’s love for theater was evident in her involvement with the Young Footliters, where she played a leading role in Jack and the Giant Beanstalk and appeared in productions such as Frozen and Peter Pan at the Coralville Center for Performing Arts.
A devoted fan of the Iowa Women's Basketball team, Krysty had the honor of serving as Kid Captain for the 2023 Crossover at Kinnick event and Assistant Coach for the 2024 pre-season game.

Traveling brought Krysty immense joy. She visited 49 states across the U.S., creating unforgettable memories along the way. She hiked towering mountains, camped in national and state parks, and cherished being in the water, which continued to bring her joy even after her diagnosis. Krysty was also an avid reader. During medical challenging therapies she found comfort in listening to audiobooks and music. She was a talented writer, often recording her thoughts in a diary and writing notes of love for her family. Throughout her treatment, she stayed connected with friends via social media and apps, sharing her light and love despite the challenges.

A lover of animals and a dedicated vegetarian, Krysty cared for two cats and a dog, whose companionship she cherished.

Krysty’s kindness, unwavering spirit, and infectious enthusiasm will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, December 2, 2024, at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville, where a time of visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7pm with a short vigil service beginning at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the local non-profit organizations, Young Footliters Youth Theatre or Coralville Community Food Pantry in the name of Krysty.
