Genevieve “Gen” Elaine Freeseman, 83, of Iowa City, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. A funeral service will be held at Noon on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. The family will greet guests during a visitation prior to the service from 10 a.m. to Noon. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Born on April 30, 1941, in Iowa City, Gen was adopted by Herman and Esther (Reints) Iblings and raised in Grundy Center, Iowa. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1959 and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. Gen worked for Wright, Armstrong, and Lynch in Marion for nearly four years before joining The University of Iowa Student Health Center, where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring in 2000.

On September 1, 1961, Gen married Lee Freeseman in Grundy Center. Gen was a cherished member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and PEO chapter H.I.

Gen enjoyed a variety of activities, including boating, snow skiing, and spending time at their cabin in Clear Lake, Iowa. A passionate Hawkeye fan, she was a season ticket holder for many sports and loved supporting her children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. Gen was also an avid sewer and found joy in her many sewing projects. Her travels with Lee in their motorhome took them to Arizona, Alaska, and Mexico, where she developed a love for Mexican pottery.

Gen is survived by her children, Linda (Jeff) Prybil of Iowa City, and Steve Freeseman of Monticello, IL; her grandchildren, Molly (Kyle) Nicholson of North Liberty, Adam (Kayci) Prybil of North Liberty, and Benton Freeseman of Monticello, IL; her great-grandchildren, Oliver and Beckett Nicholson and Lane Prybil; and her sister-in-law, Darlene (Paul) Bruns of Parkersburg, IA, along with many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lee.
