Rose Marie Zinkula, 96, of Iowa City passed away on July 20, 2024 at Briarwood Health Care Center.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Rose was born on November 6, 1927 in Washington, Iowa to Emanuel and Minnie (Amrine) Blick. She was raised in West Liberty, Iowa. Rose married Charles Zinkula on June 1, 1950 in Washington, Iowa and settled in Iowa City in 1950. The couple lived in Iowa City, where they raised their six children.
Rose started her career as a school teacher in West Liberty before working at K-Mart for many years. She retired in 1989 and in 1990, Rose and Charles moved to Rogers, Arkansas. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Rose enjoyed quilting, gardening, making porcelain dolls, and traveling but above all else, Rose enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Cynthia Etheredge of Huntsville, AL, Allan (Robin) Zinkula of Tiffin, IA, Andy (Laguana) Zinkula of Mountain View, AR, and Wayne Zinkula of Bentonville, AR, 11 grandchildren, TJ, Jessica, Paul, Kristy, Chris, Michael, Jackie, Cheylene, Amber, Christy, and Tony, and 23 great-grandchildren, Emilee, Joshua, Jase, Owen, Eli, William, Sheyan, Kayden, Karter, Nathan, Jackson, Logan, Shawn, Luke, Eric, Thomas, Kyayle, Philip, Emmit, Cali, Elijah, Emma and Alyssa.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Paul and Anthony, four brothers Harold, Cloyce, Lester and George, and sister Bessie Kosina.
