Myles (Mace) Norman Braverman Obituary
Carried along by optimism and resilience, after a series of miraculous encores, Myles (Mace) Braverman, 93, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree, Iowa.

The oldest of five children, Mace was born in Iowa City on April 4, 1931 to David and Rosalie Braverman. He attended City High School in Iowa City and the University of Iowa, where he studied Political Science. After a stint in the Navy, Mace worked alongside his parents at the family’s grocery store, the Big B. He married June Braverman, and together they had four children: Bob (Kathy Braverman), Robyn (Dan Alder), Melanie (Molly Perdue), and Tom (Anne Braverman). He went on to found Southgate Development, where he worked until his retirement in 2009.

Mace was a man of great curiosity and appetite. Over the years, his many enthusiasms included people, the Iowa Hawkeyes, travel, history, art, blackjack, friends, business, sports, Iowa City, theater, politics, children, food, family, drives in the country, trips to Costco, hotdogs, headcheese, Cheetos, and diet soda. But his most unwavering delight was reserved for his grandchildren: David Braverman; Alex and Nat Alder; Emily and William Braverman; Sam and Jonah Perdue; and Henry Olson.

Those who passed before him include his parents; sister Corky; son Bob; and former wife June. Along with his children and grandchildren he leaves an army of family, colleagues, old friends and new: wife Kay Braverman and family; siblings Dick Braverman, Eloise McCuskey, and Jody Braverman; dear friends Doug Paul, Bev Mrstik, Glen Siders, and Joan Siders; and the newest members of his tribe, the staff at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree.

Mace will be remembered as a man of tremendous passion for life, for people, and for the world he was so grateful to inhabit. Until the end, he woke each morning thinking, “I’m still here! I wonder what will happen today?”

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 AM, Friday, June 28, 2024 at Agudas Achim. Burial will follow at Agudas Achim Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mace’s name can be made to the Community Inclusion Club, 428 S. Summit St, Iowa City, IA, 52240 (communityinclusionclub.com); or the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, 2095 Main St, Brewster, MA, 02631 (alzfamilysupport.org)

Alternatively, the family requests you pay lavish compliments to complete strangers in Mace’s honor. May his memory be for a blessing.
