Gyla M. Fairchild, 87, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa after an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, with Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Friends may call at the church Monday morning from 10:00 am until service time. Burial will be Wednesday in the West Denmark Cemetery in Luck, Wisconsin. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is in charge of arrangements.

Gyla was born October 3, 1918 in Frederic, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herman & Maude (Lindvig) Swanson. She received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin. Gyla moved to Iowa City in 1952 and worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City as Director of Occupational Therapy for 25 years, retiring in 1977.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

Survivors include her cousins, Mary Ann Derksen & her husband Dennis and Gene Hedegaard & his wife Glenis, all of Bloomington, Minnesota; Philip Lindvig & his wife Ginny of Oswego, Oregon, Muriel Gorham of Mora, Minnesota and
Shirley Allen & her husband Richard of Apple Valley, California and many good friends.

Her parents preceded her in death.
