Eliot Clark Jones, 66, of Solon, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at his home in Solon with family by his side.

A memorial service will be at 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 28 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. The family will greet guests prior to the service from 4:00pm - 5:30pm. Following the service, the family invites guests to join them for dinner at The Kirkwood Room (515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City) from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jones family in care of Julie Jones to be distributed to organizations that were important to Eliot.

Eliot was born on September 2, 1957 in Iowa City, the son of Everett King II “E.K” and Helen Jane (Dunlap) Jones.

He grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School and then went on to Northwood University, Midland, MI, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

He married Julie Salz on May 15, 1993 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Eliot started off being a pilot at the Iowa City Municipal Airport where he was head pilot for Iowa City Flying Service. He was privileged to be able to fly University of Iowa care teams to clinics throughout the state. Eliot also flew patient transports, organ transplant teams, and organs ready for transplant. He was honored to fly the University of Iowa coaches and teams outside the state as well.

Eliot then went on to work in the automotive industry as a service advisor in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, first starting at Hargrave McEleney in the late 90s. His final employment was servicing RVs and participating in trade shows. Eliot was admired for how much he fostered the relationships he built with customers.

Eliot was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan as he tailgated every home Hawkeye football game for many years. He enjoyed this time as he was able to cheer on his favorite team and spend time with others.

Eliot also enjoyed supporting his children in their activities. He would be a helping hand for various sports and music events, sit in the crowd and yell their name and be his children’s (and all students) biggest supporter. Being a part of the community was a large part of Eliot’s identity as he was president of the Solon Spotlight Music Boosters and played a major role in coordinating Beef Days. It brought joy to Eliot to be able to give back to and be a part of his community. Some of Eliot’s favorite things include spending time with his family, date nights at various music venues, mowing, grilling, fishing and boating.

Eliot is survived by his loving wife Julie and their three daughters, Sara Jane Jones, Megan Jones (Jon) Holt and Victoria Jones (Mason Johnson); granddaughter Rosemary Widdes and soon to be baby Holt; siblings Gerald Jones, Marty Jones, Carrie Jones and sister-in-law Carol Jones. He is also survived by numerous extended family, Pat Kayser Tompkins (married 1985-1988), many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Eliot was preceded in death by his son Adam Jones, parents E.K. and Helen Jones, and brother E.K. Jones III.
