Sandra “Sandy” Jean Klemp, 81, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on March 31, 2024, at the University of Iowa Medical Center - Downtown.

Per Sandy’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. An informal gathering will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will take place at a later date.

Sandy was born on September 19, 1942. Her parents were Steven and Pauline Zobb, and her family included three older brothers. She graduated from Lincoln Park High School (1960) and Adrian College (1964); both are in the state of Michigan. On June 29, 1985, Sandy married Rodney “Rod” Klemp. Sandy worked for many years at Pearson.

During her senior year in high school Sandy won the baton twirling championship for the state of Michigan. She was so proud that she was the featured twirler at a Michigan football game in Michigan Stadium – “The Big House.” Sandy also was the lead twirler for several years in the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit. Then after the parade she would twirl for the Detroit Lions at their annual Thanksgiving Day football game. It was always late in the day before she had a chance for some Thanksgiving dinner.

Sandy loved marching bands and marching competitions. She was not afraid to be critical if band members were not marching in a “straight line.” Sandy loved her pets and enjoyed flowers, especially roses. Among her hobbies were reading as well as arts and crafts. The football season was filled with Hawkeye spirit, although her heart was always for Michigan: “Go Blue!” Sandy was known for sharing memories by storytelling with family and friends. Christmas was the favorite time of year for Sandy. The home was transformed with her extensive Santa Claus collection each year for everyone to appreciate and enjoy.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Rodney Klemp and her son, Jeffrey Allen Krouse. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Daniel Lawrence Krouse.
