Jerry Thomas Atkins passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born to Clyde Thomas Atkins and Dorothy Leber Atkins in Richmond, Virginia on April 2, 1941.

A time to greet the family will be held from 12-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Hays Atkins and his children: Nikki (David) Annen and their children: Marissa and Tara; Eric (Carlyn) Atkins and their children: Chloe, Austin and Peyton; Brian (Laurie) Atkins and their children: Hunter, Ryder, Alexandra, Daniella and Isabella and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Farmer.

Jerry was a 1959 graduate of Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs, Virginia. He graduated in 1963 from the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with a degree in civil engineering.

After working many jobs for Stanley Consultants in the United States and West Africa, he was employed by the University of Iowa for 35 years as a civil engineer.

Jerry enjoyed flying his airplane to Canada and other places with his family, speaking French, Jaycees, the Toast Masters Club as well as being a member of the Iowa Soccer and Rugby Clubs. His favorite pastime was golf. Jerry’s love and passion was his family, especially his grandchildren.
