Phyllis Powell, 81, of Tipton, Iowa, formerly of Colfax and Bloomington, Illinois, passed away on March 13, 2024 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.
To celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held March 30, 2024 at 3pm at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, where her family will greet friends prior to the service from 2pm to 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Manor Nursing Home.
Phyllis was born January 30, 1943 in Bloomington, IL to Robert and Juanita Stretch (Sparrow). She spent her early life in Colfax and graduated from Octavia High School in 1961.
Phyllis married John Anderson and had her daughter Lori in 1962 and son Brian in 1965. Phyllis married Larry Powell on November 27, 1974 and had their son Jeffrey in 1975. Phyllis and Larry resided in Colfax with the children. Phyllis provided childcare in her home for many years and later retired from Bro-Menn Hospital.
Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and nothing meant more to her than being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Phyllis and Larry moved to Tipton in 2008 to be near her son and grandchildren in Iowa. They lived at Tipton Senior Park and enjoyed the friendships she made while living there. She also made many friends at Cedar Manor during her stay.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Powell of Tipton, children Lori (Charles) Knell and Brian (Shelly) Anderson, both of Colfax, Illinois and Jeffrey (Cyndi) Powell of Coralville, Iowa, brother Bob Stretch of Bluffton, South Carolina, sister Carolyn Balzarini of Fayetteville, Georgia, grandchildren Kayla and Katie Gibson, Tara Nihiser, Nick Anderson, and Atticus, Oliver and Darby Powell; and great grandchildren Kaiden, Dalton, Lily, Ethan, Negan and Cooper.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law Shelly Anderson.
