BROWN, SCHRICKER, RINGER, MICHELS, THRELKELD, TAYLOR

Rachel Brown, born Richard Vestal Brown, of Cedar Rapids and later Iowa City passed in her sleep on February 21st. She battled with chronic conditions her whole life, the mightiest of which was Multiple Sclerosis. More than any of that, Rachel was a rebel in her youth, and a Christian and amateur botanist as she grew. Her interests were eclectic, the strongest of which were hippos, African violets, chemistry, and cooking. Rachel knew Iowa City well, as she was a bus driver for Iowa City Transit until her retirement.

Rachel was a thirty-nine-year member of the AA community, for which she had nothing but the deepest gratitude. Finally, She was also a late arrival to the LGBTQ+ community in her journey to actualize the adage ‘to thine own self be true.’

She is survived by her son and daughter, Kevin and Angela Brown, her siblings Mark Brown, Linda Leigh Brown, Deborah Schricker, Marinelle Ringer, Georgiana Michels, and former spouses Barbara Threlkeld and Pauline Taylor, among many other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willard Earl and Barbara Jean Brown, and her daughter Robin Brown.

Family and friends are invited to a last visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation: https://msfocus.org/Home.aspx.
