Cory K. (Fountain) Bauwens, age 69 formerly of rural Iowa City died Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Colonial Manor Care Center where she has resided for the past 5 years.
A time for family and friends to gather to celebrate Cory’s life will be held from 3 to 8 pm Saturday, November 18th. at the Eagles Lodge in Iowa City (casual attire encouraged). In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Cory Kay Fountain was born March 11, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Black) Fountain. She attended schools in Lone Tree graduating from Lone Tree High School with the Class of 1972. In her younger years she enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with her friends. At a young age she was diagnosed with MS, enduring the ups and downs of what this disease presented her almost her entire life. As an adult and mother of five, she raised her family, doing all the things moms are supposed to do and more. As the grandchildren came along, she found the joys of being grandma was pretty special too; she simply loved her family beyond anything in this world. She was known to really like true crime TV, doing cross-stitch, word puzzles, reading and ceramics.
Her family includes her five children, Melena Wickenkamp (Josh), Joe Bauwens (Kati), Josh Bauwens, Jake Bauwens (Kacey) and Jon Bauwens (Wendy); grandchildren, Alicia Bauwens, Ethan Hicks, Tony Bauwens, Savannah Platts, Gavin Platts, Simon Bauwens, Stormy Bauwens, Madison Sobolik, Mia Bauwens, Nathan Bauwens, Keegan Bauwens, Landon Bauwens, Audrey Bauwens and Paisley Bauwens; one -great-granddaughter due any day now; and Cory’s former husband Mike Bauwens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Craig Fountain.
