Catherine Marie Kouba, 92, formerly of Iowa City, died Friday, October 7, 2005 at Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley, Iowa following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 10, 2005 at 9am at St. Wenceslaus Church with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 5 pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 3pm by the Catholic Daughters and the Foresters. A brunch will follow the committal service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Catherine was born November 27,1912 in Iowa City, the daughter of Frank and Barbara
Neuzil Machovec. On August 7, 1934 she married Clarence Kouba at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City.

Catherine was a graduate of City High School and the Irish Business College. She and her husband farmed in Scott Township, east of Iowa City, for many years. Catherine was a resident of Atrium Village in Hills from 1992 to 2001.

Catherine was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the National Catholic Society of Foresters and a charter member of Sew’n Blow Club. She had co-authored several books and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting and playing cards.

Catherine is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo (Dr. Robert) Godwin of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Tom Kouba, Becky ( Randy) Schmidt, Ed (Jill) Kouba, Ted
(Shelley) Godwin, Beth (Dr. David) Calabotta, Cathy (Tim) Stensby and Maggie Godwin; nine great grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Patricia (Bill) Harney of Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence (1985), two sons Raymond and Robert, four brothers and six sisters.
