Randy J. Seydel, who was stabbed to death in an Iowa City tavern during the early morning hours of Nov. 9, is a graduate of West Branch high school. Daniel A. Treiber, 19, a freshman student at the University of Iowa and a member of the U of I football squad, is being held on first degree murder charges.

Seydel was stabbed twice in the stomach in Maxwell's tavern at Iowa City at 12:40 a.m. and died of shock at 1:08 a.m. at University hospitals.

Funeral services for Seydel were held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church, Iowa City, Nov. 12.

The son of Sy and Phyllis Duncan Seydel, he was born in Iowa City Jan. 17, 1959. He graduated from West Branch high school and worked for his brother, David, as a mechanic at Seydel Auto and Truck Repair Service, Iowa City. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Solon Jaycees and the Izaak Walton Gun Club.

He is survived by his father, his stepmother, Mary, 4 brothers, David, Jerry and Phillip, all of Iowa City and Thomas, Keosauqua; 6 sisters, Mrs. Greg (Linda) Schrock and Mrs. Todd (Sue Ellen) Gordon, both of Iowa City, Mrs. Randy (Cynthia) Friend, Oren, Utah and Lisa, Lori and Teresa, all at home. He was preceded in death by his mother.
