Larry Lear, 76, of North Liberty, passed away on September 14, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospital.

An open-house gathering will be held from 1-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at The Kirkwood Room in Iowa City.

Larry was born on March 9, 1947 in Riverside, Iowa to Fred and Frances (Hayes) Lear. After graduating from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Illinois, Larry moved to the Iowa City area and worked several jobs as a young adult before working as a machinist for over 35 years. Larry worked at Lear Corporation (formerly Sheller Globe) for his entire factory career before retiring in 2006.

On November 29, 1969 he married DeAnna Krall at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Solon and to this union, one daughter was born.

Larry had many hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed working on cars and fixing things. He was an innovative problem solver and used many creative ways to find solutions to problems. Larry enjoyed taking care of his farm out in West Branch and enjoyed his Lion’s Club meetings and morning coffee club get togethers. Above all, Larry was a devoted and loving family man. Spending time with his loved ones was his top priority (especially time with his granddaughters!)

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, DeAnna; daughter, Alana (Rick) Crow; grandchildren: Lexie and Addie Wehde; sisters: Pat Gabhart and Shirley Miley as well as his half-siblings: Lucille Durst, Bernice Bailey and Bud Cole. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws: Richard and Helen Krall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Liberty Food Pantry.
