Bronwyn Van Fossen, 72, of Iowa City, died on August 26, 2023, following complication of a cancer diagnosis. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice

Bronwyn was born to parents Marcella (Burke) McClure and Lawrence McClure on September 26, 1950, in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Larry and Brian, and six much-loved feline companions.

Her remaining family members include husband, Barry of Iowa City; daughter, Heather Don Carlos of Coralville, Iowa and husband, Rick Bebber of Coralville, Iowa; grandson, Nick Don Carlos, also of Coralville, Iowa and niece Lori Shilling and her son, Will, of Greenfield, Iowa.

Bronwyn married Barry Van Fossen at Danforth Chapel at the Iowa Memorial Union on the campus of the University of Iowa. While the wedding ceremony lasted only seven minutes, their marriage had moved into its fourth decade.

Bronwyn earned her BBA from the University of Iowa and diploma in Floriculture from Kirkwood Community College. Her working career began at the Iowa city Press-Citizen, moving on to payroll at the University of Iowa. Her career concluded in the Office of Internal Audit, also at the University of Iowa. She retired in 2012.

Bronwyn and Barry were fortunate to be able to travel to the Caribbean on four separate occasions and also visit the Canadian cities of Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City. They also enjoyed taking their bicycles and riding trails in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. Bronwyn and Barry spent many days with grandson, Nick, at the Wisconsin Dells. Additionally, they would drive to Cedar Rapids to dine at the Taste of India then head out to Airport Golf to play mini-golf. Bronwyn followed the NFL and the ATP tour. She was so happy to be able to travel to Mason, Ohio to watch her favorite player, Roger Federer.

She liked all types of music ranging from Milli Vanilli to Motown to Yanni. She appreciated the fiction works of authors John Irving and Richard Russo. In retirement, Bronwyn attended Senior College courses through the University of Iowa Center for Advancement. Grateful to have their small family close by, Bronwyn and Barry hosted many birthday and holiday events featuring good food, games, and cash prizes. Saturday morning Java House time with daughter, Heather, was very special.

Much gratitude for the special friendships of Cynde, Paula, and Terri.

Bronwyn’s final words of advice would be trust but verify.
