JoyceAnne Munson Welsh, 10/21/1946 – 8/2/2023, left this world Wednesday morning at her home.

In true JoyceAnne fashion, she hosted her own party to celebrate her life the day after her release from the hospital, on Saturday, June 24th, at home. Many friends gathered to share stories and smiles. She also wrote her own obituary, which follows:

It occurs to me that obituaries are lists - lists of dates, people, accomplishments, and favorite activities. And so I am going to share my lists.

Dave Welsh. Partner for more than forty years. I think we share the same heart. Forever and always, I trust you with my life, my love, my being. I can't imagine my life without you. And now you must imagine your life without me. It hurts to know it.

Jamie Wright-Sheriff, Daughter. Brilliant. Funny. Gentle. Strong.

William Sheriff, Grandson. Sweet, loving, confident, original.

Margaret Munson, Niece. Flexible, hilarious, Athletic, Kind.

My sister of the heart, Cathy.

Dave's cousins and beloved Aunt Ramona.

I have a lot of cousins - Munson, Knowles and Lester. I have loved them all for my entire life and I love them still. The best part of this list is that I know my cousins all love me, too - and they have all my life.

I'm grateful to have had this beautiful, loving and sometimes raucous group in my life. They have sustained me in tough times as well as in good. The truth is, there were always more good times than bad. Many more.

If I start naming friends, I will undoubtedly leave someone's name off the list and that simply would not do. So - I will just say that I have many, many friends and I couldn't have made it this far in the world without a single one of them. They were here for me before I was sick and they are here for me now. I have been touched by all the kindnesses, but not at all surprised. And, honestly, these people are family - a diverse, hilarious, smart, loving, generous family.

I leave no words of wisdom. Not sure I know any. I do want everybody to know that I loved music, eating out with friends, laughing, and dancing. Laughing probably tops my list. I could do that while doing almost anything else. And I played the flute.

We are not planning a funeral. What we might have spent on a luncheon will go as a donation to the Free Lunch Program.
