Candace Noble, 76, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, July 20 from 3-5 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chamber Singers of Iowa City and Shelter House.

Candace was born on July 27, 1946 in Thermopolis, WY, the daughter of Robert and Eleanor (Street) Noble. Music was integral to her family life, both in singing and playing instruments. She graduated from University High School in Laramie, WY in 1964. Candace received her Bachelors Degree in 1968 and Masters Degree in 1972, both in Secondary Education and French. She then received her PhD in 1983 from Kansas State University. Lastly, in 2009 she graduated with a Masters Degree in Linguistics and ESL from The University of Iowa.

Candace started her career as a French teacher in Torrington and Casper, WY. During this time she chaperoned multiple groups of her students to France, to expand their use of language and also to experience French culture. She later became the Coordinator of Foreign Languages, Fine Arts, and Bilingual Education at Wyoming State Department of Education, from 1974 -1978. Candace then moved to Washington D.C. for several months in 1979 to work for the John F Kennedy Center as the Regional Coordinator of arts education. In 1981, while working on her PhD, she shifted her work focus to educational testing. She worked for the American Guidance Service in Minnesota from 1981-1987 developing individual and large group educational assessments. In 1987 Candace moved to Iowa City to work at ACT as a manager of the ACT test development, as well as other assessments. During her time with ACT she also worked in Belo Horizonte, Brazil for 2 years helping to build international relationships and improve educational and workforce assessment in Brazil. After she retired from ACT in 2007, Candace was a part- time English as a Second Language teacher at Kirkwood Community College until 2018. She also tutored athletes and ESL students at the University of Iowa until 2014.

Candace enjoyed spending time with her friends, attending cultural events, and watching movies. She was an avid reader, frequenting the online Iowa City library and checking out many books at a time. She loved to travel (especially Australia) and learn new languages, including Portuguese. She continued to tutor students in French until her death. She maintained close relationships with her students and continued to help them long after she no longer taught them. She was also a member and supporter of Chamber Singers of Iowa City for several years and a friend of Bill W. 's since 1982.

Candace is survived by her sister, Julie Noble of Iowa City; brother, James Noble (Kathy) and their children, Jacqui Duggan and Claire Cockerill of Brisbane, Australia; sister, Jan Greville (Brooke) and their children Wendy Gray (Naden) and Julie Gander (Stephen) and their children, Riley and Morgan (Page). She was preceded in death by her parents.
