Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Glenn was born on April 23, 1940 in Iowa City to Glenn and Louise (Schlenk) Pauley. Glenn graduated with the first class at Reginia High School in 1959. His love of flying found Glenn at the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Upon his return to Iowa in 1963, during a doctors appointment, he met a nurse named Leona Ann Duffey. This chance meeting resulted in a 58 year love story that began on September 5, 1964 at St. Mary’s in Iowa City. Through this union, Glenn and Ann were blessed with 4 children and 5 grandchildren. With the encouragement of Ann, Glenn worked as an ironworker, connector and welder with the IWLU Local 89. He took tremendous pride in his work. The structures which he helped erect with the sweat from his brow and the muscles in his back are his epitaphs throughout Iowa and the Midwest.

In 1977, a construction accident made it impossible for him to continue working in the trades. Even though he was left with shattered ankles, his steadfast devotion to his family and being the incredible provider he was, found him working for Facilities Management at the University of Iowa, retiring in 2001.

Glenn loved photography, airplanes, going on car rides and tinkering. He could ultimately fix anything that came his way. He was a hard worker, loving husband, and dedicated father. His biggest joy was his family. Spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren meant everything to him.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Ann; children: Jennifer Pauley, Christine (Darrin) Thompson, Bridget Pauley and Glenn III (Tania); grandchildren: Spencer, Madeline, Nolan, Mason and Lincoln as well as his sister, Anna May (Charles) Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Raven and his miniature Schnauzer Nick.

Parkinson’s took control of his mortal body but the illness never touched his mind, his heart, or his spirit. His eternal soul entered into its reward and rests in the arms of his Lord and Savior. Upon entering into heaven, Glenn heard the words from Matthew 11:28. “Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”

Glenn’s family would like to thank Briarwood Health Care Center and Essence of Life Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
