Janet Beckman passed away on June 26, 2023, in Iowa City.

Janet was born to Dale Glenn and Joye Gladys (Locke) Beckman on March 16, 1955, in Burlington, Iowa. She spent her childhood living in Prairie Grove, Iowa. She graduated from Danville High School in 1973 and attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa earning an Associate’s Degree as a Certified Medical Assistant. She worked in health care roles for most of her life.

Janet’s true love was traveling. She went on numerous trips to explore National Parks. Her favorite places were anywhere that had wild horses. She was fearless and independent in her travels, sometimes bringing along a friend, and other times taking long solo trips to new places.

Janet had a quick wit and a unique sense of humor. She enjoyed varied hobbies and interests including arts and crafts, photography, and animals of all kinds. Janet will be remembered for being a loyal friend. She always helped out where she could, from keeping small kits in the trunk of her car for the homeless to helping care for her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by children Kristin Jo Lampe, KariLyn Beckman (Lampe) Waddell, and Rebecca Denise Bowers; grandchildren Alexander Everette Lampe, Jackson James Waddell, Rylee Lyn Waddell, and Mason Cole Waddell, and close friend of 58 years, Pauline Rainey.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael Dean Beckman.

The family would like to thank members of the Iowa Chapter of the ALS Association for their amazing knowledge and support.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are being planned at this time. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Chapter of the ALS Association.
