Craig Margulis, 68, of Iowa City, passed away on April 19, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Craig was born on November 25, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to Martin and Aline (Bierman) Margulis. Following graduation, Craig attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon and obtained his bachelor’s degree in art with an emphasis in ceramics.

Craig worked for many years as a social worker, retiring from Johnson County MHDD. It was a career well-chosen due to the amount of care and empathy that Craig had to offer. He had a knack for taking on the most difficult of cases and handling them with such grace and compassion.

In his spare time, he enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes and cars; both for fun and competitively. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Pottery Guild and spending time with his family.

Craig is survived by his son, Aaron Margulis (Nicole Bishop); former wife, Nancy Margulis; granddaughter, Faith Weston and godson, Colton Rodgers as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Margulis.

Per Craig’s wishes, cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be planned at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o Aaron Margulis to offset medical and funeral expenses.
